Changpeng Zhao and Yi He launched Binance on July 14, 2017, funded by a roughly $15 million ICO for its in-house token, BNB. Within about six months it was the world's largest crypto exchange by volume, a position it kept for years while pioneering the exchange-token playbook and offshore derivatives dominance that the rest of the industry promptly copied.
