On February 21, 2025, attackers drained roughly $1.5 billion in Ether from a Bybit cold wallet by tampering with the Safe{Wallet} signing interface, tricking signers into approving a malicious transaction. The FBI attributed the theft to North Korea (the actor it calls TraderTraitor, widely known as the Lazarus Group), making it comfortably the largest crypto heist on record and a reminder that "cold storage" is only as cold as the UI you sign with.
