On March 29, 2021, Visa announced it had become the first major payments network to settle a transaction in USD Coin, accepting USDC over Ethereum from Crypto.com to settle card-program obligations without converting to fiat, with Anchorage acting as settlement agent. It was a modest pilot dressed up as a milestone, but a real one: a stablecoin had quietly slipped into the plumbing of a global card network's settlement layer.
