On August 13, 2020, the CRV governance token and Curve DAO went live a day ahead of schedule after an anonymous developer (@0xc4ad) spent roughly 19.9 ETH front-running the team to deploy the published contracts themselves, premining 80,000-odd tokens before anyone official noticed. Curve inspected the code, shrugged, and accepted the rogue deployment as the real launch. The resulting vote-escrow (veCRV) tokenomics went on to anchor DeFi and ignite the multi-protocol 'Curve Wars' over liquidity bribes.
